Abhishek Sharma's family has long been associated with the BJP and social work. His grandfather was the district Sanghchalak (organizer) of the RSS, and his father, Dr. Rajeshwar Dutt Sharma, served as the Sanghchalak of Dadri Nagar. The ideology of the RSS runs in his blood.

March 16, 2025, marked a historic turning point in the politics of Gautam Buddh Nagar when the BJP announced Abhishek Sharma as the new district president under the Sangathan Mahaparva Abhiyan. A special meeting was organized at the BJP district office, Tilpati Golchakkar, where several senior party leaders and workers were present.

The meeting was conducted by BJP district general secretary Yogesh Chaudhary, while outgoing district president Gajendra Mavi presided over it. The chief guests included BJP national secretary Vinod Sonkar, former MP from Meerut Rajendra Agrawal, BJP district election in-charge and MLC Vijay Shivhare, Dadri MLA Tejpal Nagar, and Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh.
